Love it

Was in the market for an another IR Laser for another rifle, definitely as close as I could get to the one I presently have. Runs great and the battery has lasted a long time. On a side funny know… when I’m not out with it… makes for a hilariously expensive dog/ cat toy 🤣

Incredible. Battle proven reliability.

Incredible. Battle proven tried and true. Can’t go wrong. Don’t cheap out on pieces to a rifle that you could be entrusting your safety and liberty to.

Good kit.

Rare quality. Illuminator is not as useful as I hoped, but still very usable. Very happy with it.

Military advantage in a civilian package

The media could not be loaded.

This unit is identical in every respect to its military counter part with the only difference being the power output of the IR laser and IR illuminator. The unit is very small and fits comfortably on the rail of any rifle. the unit performs extremely well and is highly recommended.

Doesn't get much better for civilian IR/visible aiming pointers

The same as the military version except reduced output on the IR laser and IR illuminator. The green visible laser can be seen to about 75 yards in normal daylight on high. The IR laser is very bright under night vision. The illuminator less so, and fairly useless, though better than similar civilian models since the width can be adjusted. The mount seems pretty good. I've only seen my EOTech HWS and green laser diverge by around 1.5 MOA or so when firing.

Hard to use compared to peq15

Okay, first you’ll notice is all the functions and modes 😂 it’s made in Germany. It is very confusing compared to the American peq15. I’m just going to have to get used to it, wasn’t going to complain because it works nice, definitely works better than a peq15 but will take a long time to get used to. You’ll need a second person to look bc you’ll not know when it’s viz vs non viz, the pressure pad and Modes are not clear like American ones. If it’s your first one go for it, If you’ve used American ones you’ll have a learning curve, it’s not as easy to understand but it’s better built and works further. German engineer good, German design confusing.

The illuminator is almost useless

While the DBAL A3 works for my needs, it’s just barely. The FDA has restricted the power to the point of making the illuminator basically garbage (yet the MAWL has a great illuminator). It’s simply too dim to provide useful target identification beyond 50 meters or so. I believe Steiner could rectify some of this by allowing the beam to focus to a smaller diameter, and using the newer Vcsel technology like the mawl. The D2 has excellent illumination, but at the cost of being heavy and massive. My A3 came from B&H for $1200 and I paired it with a surefire 640V for a little extra light, and it’s still $1100 cheaper than the MAWL.
